Maimonides School, a modern Orthodox day school in Brookline, MA seeks an energetic and experienced individual to teach courses in 6th grade earth science and 8th grade physical science. We are looking for a dynamic, creative teacher with demonstrated enthusiasm for developing a middle school learner’s academic and critical thinking skills, while nurturing their social, emotional, and spiritual growth. Must also have interest and experience in curriculum development, and a commitment to innovative pedagogy. Candidates should have a strong and diverse background in middle school sciences and a commitment to continued professional growth. The focus of science teaching in the middle school is on interactive, experiential learning and depth of understanding that connects to a learner’s natural curiosity about the way the physical world works. We emphasize hands-on inquiry, questioning and proposing solutions, conducting research and analysis of student findings. Responsibilities:•Teach four classes as part of a team of very strong science teachers that is dedicated to vertical integration of curriculum across grades and divisions. •Maimonides is committed to using Boston as an educational resource and as such, there is an expectation that field trips throughout the city will be incorporated into the curriculum where appropriate, to complement and support students’ experiences in the classroom. •Serve as student advisor to a group of MS students, working closely with an interdisciplinary grade-level team to help direct and help our students regarding their social-emotional learning and the expectations and culture of the Middle School. •Provide ongoing feedback and attention to students both inside and outside of the classroom. Qualifications:•Candidates should have a minimum of three years teaching experience at the middle school level and a commitment to work as part of a collaborative team that prepares students with the skills, critical thinking abilities and content knowledge to succeed as they develop as learners and progress toward high school.•Master’s degree is strongly preferred.
